The CPU, APU and GPU maker didn't manage to turn a profit

Many people thought, and hoped, that Advanced Micro Devices would turn a profit in the first quarter of 2014, but that didn't happen, according to the financial results that the company has just published.

The corporation's revenue for the January-March period of this year turned out to be of $1.4 billion / €1.01 billion.

Meanwhile, the loss was of $20 million / €14.48 million, which isn't that big compared to the one of the same period last year, but still a bit disheartening.

Back in the first quarter of 2013, AMD reported a loss of $146 million / €105.69 million on a revenue of $1.09 billion / €790 million.

So a $20 million / €14.48 million loss on $1.4 billion / €1.01 billion revenue is actually pretty decent, even though it's not really a profit.

That's not the impression that the company left on the world as a whole though, not after it actually did turn a profit in the fourth quarter of 2013.

So, even though the 28% increase in revenue beat expectations (analysts expected $1.39 billion / €970 million), it's a bit disappointing that AMD didn't stay profitable, despite the good sales of Microsoft Xbox One and Sony PlayStation 4 game consoles.
