Remember ATI RD600 chipset? In case some of you have forgotten about it, let me remind you some rumors that have
been around for a while. What comes to my mind first is the fact that this chipset was going to be quite an overclocker, surpassing even INTEL p965/975x motherboards. Needless to say that DFI chose to be the first integrator. And when DFI chooses to work on a chipset, the result is pretty amazing. There was no actual press release with the specs, but the chipset was going to support 500+ FSB and DDR2-1333.

The RD600 was delayed several times. And after AMD and Ati started acting as a unique organism, it was like the chipset never existed. But if you think for one moment that AMD forgot about RD600, you would be dead wrong.

It’s actually safe to say that RD600 is AMD’s latest chipset. And what’s new about it is that it’s aimed at INTEL. As a matter of fact, RD600 is supposed to be so good it will even surpass 680i chipsets from Nvidia making it an overclocker’s dream. Since Sapphire has officially dropped RD600 project, DFI will remain the single manufacturer to integrate AMD’s chipset. Let’s hope that it will eventually see the light of day since this will probably be the last chipset AMD & Ati target at INTEL. Or maybe it won’t be the last? No one can tell. But I sure love a good competition.
