Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices looks committed in providing its users with high-end solutions that are relatively affordable compared to similar products from the company's main rival, Intel. On that note, the chip maker is said to be preparing the launch of yet another high-end processor, enabling overclocking enthusiasts and high-end PC users to take advantage of a factory-set core speed of
3.4GHz. The new processor will likely be launched as the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition and turn out as AMD's new flagship model.

According to a recent article on Fudzilla, AMD's upcoming Phenom II X4 processor will provide users with clock speeds of 3.4GHz, further boosting performance over the recently launched Phenom II X4 955, which boasts a factory-set core speed of 3.2GHz. There aren't any specific details regarding the launch date of the new Phenom II X4 965, but it appears that some retailers have jumped at the opportunity of listing the product on their webpages. This could mean that the chip maker is actually planning to launch the new CPU in the near future, although we are yet to find out the exact launch date.

As far as technical specifications go, the new part will be built on the same 45nm manufacturing technology as AMD's latest generation of Phenom II processors, leveraging 6MB of L3 cache, a TDP of 125W, support for dual-channel DDR3 memory and 4GT/s Hypertransport. Additionally, the processor will provide users with support for a number of technologies, including MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE4a, Enhanced 3DNow!, NX bit, AMD64, Cool'n'Quiet, AMD-V.

Overall, it looks like AMD is trying to get closer to its enthusiast fan base, providing them with high-end solutions that are more suitable for bragging rights and overclocking sessions, rather than everyday computing. As far as pricing goes, the new processor is now listed for around US$330, according to Fudzilla.
