While believed reluctant to the idea, AMD seems to actually agree with it

NVIDIA's newly launched PhysX technology managed to accelerate performance at levels beyond known limits, and that caught everybody's attention. Shortly after this, NGOHQ announced that they were able to port Nvidia PhysX to AMD's Radeon HD 380 GPU. In the following weeks, their action got the blessing of the Santa Clara company, which also announced that it would provide both tools and active support for the development.

The problem was that AMD appeared unresponsive, and the guys from NGOHQ were unable to get a Radeon HD 4800 series card from AMD to continue their work on the development of PhysX support. After all, it seems that AMD did not refuse to help, but the card is short on supply in many areas of the world, including Israel, where NGOHQ is based.

Palit offered its support by providing them with a card, so they are able to continue their work now. NGOHQ said that AMD refused to help in the article that announced Nvidia as being supportive; that does not look too good for the company. On the other hand, NordicHardware says that AMD has a completely different perspective of the situation.

It seems that AMD is not that unresponsive as believed before. According to NordicHardware, Julia Clark, AMD PR Manager, UK, South Africa, Middle East and Nordics, said, "We think that it is great that people continue to use our products in creative ways".

AMD's already affordable Radeon HD 4800 series would gain a lot from any value added to it. We should remember that AMD is rumored to try porting the PhysX to its cards by itself, which would explain its attitude towards NGOHQ's move. Yet, we should also probably wait for an official statement to see whether the company sustains the porting of PhysX on its Radeon cards, or it considers it not to be a fortunate one since they already have Intel's Havok on their side.
