When AMD purchased ATI, there were rumors that soon there will be bargains such as "buy an AMD processor, get a discount for an ATI video card", but I don't think anybody predicted that when you will buy an AMD motherboard, it will come with ATI integrated graphics. Now we have just that, and from the line of products AMD
previously presented at CeBIT I hadn't seen one for mobile platforms, how very thoughtful of them to consider it and release the AMD M690 Chipset.
Phil Eisler, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD Chipset Division said: "With AMD's graphics engine expertise and our mobile processor leadership, AMD delivers a cohesive mobile platform for commercial and consumer customers that demand the Windows Vista™ Premium experience on the go. AMD CPU and GPU technologies work in tandem to deliver increased battery life for mobile workers and consumers who demand a superior graphics and multimedia experience wherever the road takes them."
The chipset features an integrated ATI X1200 series graphics processor, and supports ATI's Avivo technology and integrated HDMI and DVI options, allowing for smooth video playback, including in high-definition format. To increase battery life, AMD M690 also features an "innovative memory technology" called Display Cache. It works by allowing the CPU to operate in low-power consumption mode without accessing the system memory. The platform is designed with Windows Vista's hardware requirement demands in mind and is said to deliver "the ultimate mobile computing experience."
Carol Hess-Nickels, director, worldwide business notebook marketing, Personal Systems Group, HP stated that: "HP and AMD have a strong track record of working together to provide innovative mobile solutions. HP offers exceptional mobile products that address the needs of users and AMD's M690 is another example of its customer-centric focus."
