14 DAY TRIAL // Later this month AMD is expected to launch the desktop version of the Llano accelerated processing units, that packs two or four processing cores and a Radeon HD 6000 GPU on the same silicon die, and a recent leak has uncovered the names of the models that are going to be released together with their specs.
The Llano product family will include six new processors that are split into A-Series and E-Series APUs.
For starters, the A-Series will include five chips, with clock speeds ranging from 2.9 to 2.4 GHz, and some select models will include support for the Turbo Core technology that automatically adjusts the core's speeds according the the load placed on them.
The fastest desktop Llano CPU to be introduced by AMD is called the A8-3850 and this packs four processing cores clocked at 2.9GHz, 4MB of Level 2 cache, a dual-channel DDR3-1866 memory controller and a Radeon HD 6550D graphics unit.
This includes no less than 400 shader processors clocked at 600MHz and can work together with select discrete graphics cards in an Hybrid CrossFireX mode.
The A8-3850 is one of the four Llano desktop processors that doesn't support the Turbo Core technology and has a TDP of 100W.
The only other A-Series processor with a similar TDP is the A6-3650, which also lacks Turbo Core support.
As far as AMD's E-Series of accelerated processing units is concerned this is comprised out of a single member which features a dual-core design, 1MB of L2 cache, an integrated dual-channel DDR-1600 memory controller and Radeon HD 6370D integrated graphics.
This GPU includes 160 stream processors clocked at 443MHz and lacks support for Hybrid CrossFireX setups. The TDP of the 2.4GHz E2-3200 is rated at 65W and the chip comes with Turbo Core disabled.
So far, AMD hasn't revealed the release date of the desktop Llano APUs, but their mobile counterparts are expected to be officially launched a few days from now, on June 14. (via Donanim Haber)
