According to the latest news on the web, Advanced Micro Devices is on its way to launch three 65nm dual-cores, all based on the company's K10 architecture, meaning that they are Kuma 65nm dual-cores. According to the news, AMD will brand these parts Athlon X2 7000, and the launch will include the Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition running at 2.7GHz, Athlon X2 7550 at 2.5GHz, and Athlon X2 7450 rated 2.4GHz.
Advanced Micro Devices’ Athlon X2 7000 processors will include 3MB total cache memory, while being compatible with AM2+ boards and having support for DDR2-1066. The cache is divided into 512KB for each core, summing 1024KB, while the additional 2MB L3 cache will be shared between the cores. All three CPUs feature a 95W TDP. They will join the newly released Athlon X2 6500, Kuma 65nm dual K10, running at 2.3GHz and priced just under €100, which is barely available.
Besides the chip already out, the price and availability of the others are not certain. As the new parts are a bit faster than the Athlon X2 6500, they should probably launch at higher pricing, yet it seems there are some retailers that already list these parts at lower costs. To be more precise, the fastest of the series, Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition, has been spotted at a retailer listed for only €86 inc. VAT.
Considering the fact that X2 6500 is listed for €99, the price of the X2 7750 sounds like a nice deal. The same CPU is reported to have surfaced on a British retailer's site for 77 quid, while at a U.S. online store, it is priced $93. The chip is expected to become available on December 14th, or a few days later. In addition, the 2.5GHz Athlon X2 7550 and the Athlon X2 7450 at 2.4GHz should come to the market with lower price tags, as they feature slower core speeds (they haven't surfaced yet).
