AMD recently announced the manufacturer's latest line of processors - Torrenza - which represents a new approach on HyperTransport link between processors and the miscellaneous users' needs, informs TG Daily.

During the press conference preceding the official launch, AMD's representatives gave several details on the development of the future to be Torrenza program.

Consequently, the first chipsets that will be launched in the Torrenza program will be plugged directly into a CPU socket. The representatives added that
Torreza will enable an OEM to control a special advanced co-processor, which will easily fit into an open CPU slot, because of a HyperTransport connection that links it directly to the CPU.

Moreover, because of AMD platforms such as the already famous "4x4", dual-core CPUs will be hooked together, as the platforms allow the usage of two dual-core chipsets pairs for coexisting eight cores.

According to TG Daily, the next step of Torrenza development will consist in increasing the capabilities of the HyperTransport platform, meaning adding new bus-bypassing components and other slots to the AMD64 systems.

The success of this stage depends mainly on AMD's partners who will receive a HyperTransport technology license in order to further enhance the platform's features. It seems that because of these new multi-socket systems, AMD's partners will be able to use the second, third or even fourth socket, facilitating in this way the connection established between the CPU and the graphics or physics processors.

Several well-known companies have already announced their participation in AMD's program, such as Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, Cray, Liquid Computing, one of the leaders in server manufacturing, NetLogic Microsystems, a processor producer and also DRC Computer.

The analysts are saying that all these companies chose to take part in this complex program because, as they already have experience in manufacturing hardware expressly for Opteron platforms, especially DRC Computer, Torrenza represents one step forward in the war of gaining a bigger market share and know-how.
