AMD Launches New HDTV/DVR Solutions for Laptop and Desktop PCs

AMD released on July 9, 2007 two new multimedia solutions that offer both high-definition television( HDTV) and digital video recording( DVR), available for laptop and desktop PCs alike. These solutions came as external or internal plug-and-play add-on cards,

connectable by USB or PCIe. They feature an advanced 3D comb filter, noise reduction, automatic color control and sharp video that rivals high-end consumer television sets.

The ATI TV Wonder 600 USB is an external, USB-mounted High definition PVR packet. It works with desktop PCs or laptops and it is shaped as an elegant and sleek USB stick.

ATI TV Wonder 600 supports both analog and digital TV. Its main features are free-to-air HDTV, off-the-air cable or Analog TV and off-the-air Digital TV or HDTV. The software package is represented by the ATI Catalyst software suite (DVD playback and authoring, full PVR and time shifting, ATI Avivo Video Converter) and AMD LIVE! CD with AMD LIVE! On Demand. A remote control and a telescopic antenna are also included.

Dedicated to desktop PCs the TV Wonder 650 Combo PCIe is a combo tuner that can capture over-the-air and cable programs, including HDTV. Available only with the PCIe card, ClearQAM is a technology that is able to capture unencrypted digital channels. With ClearQAM technology, DTV services are available through Digital Cable and they provide new ways of receiving DVT channels. Just like ATI TV Wonder 600 USB, the desktop-oriented solution comes with a full software package and it has the same general features.

Standard analog TV image is enhanced by the advanced 3D comb filter that removes false colors and artifacts. Brightness is automatically adjusted, just like video sharpness is, in order to keep the image clean, clear and crisp. Both of these multimedia products can act as video recorders, supporting hardware MPEG-2 compression to keep the CPU free and to produce a high quality capture that can be easily transferred to DVD. FM radio is also available as is the function to capture analog video from a camcorder or VCR. Noise reduction is automatically applied to captured images, removing static and making them crisp.
