Microsoft has recently appointed a new head of the consumer channel group, as the company is still struggling to consolidate this particular part of its business.

AMD Korea CEO David Kwon has been appointed to take over this role, as he is considered the right person that could help the company boost Surface tablet availability in the local market.

“David Kwon has recently been named as the senior executive of MS Korea’s consumer channel group. Kwon will handle local distribution channels to better promote our key devices including X-Box and Windows Surface tablet,” MS Korea spokeswoman Angela Lee told The Korea Times.

Expanding availability of its devices across the consumer channel is Microsoft’s key challenge these days, as the company experienced difficulties with the first Surface after its launch. In fact, limited availability has also been considered a major setback for the Surface, which registered rather slow sales after the October 2012 launch.
