As it continues to reform in the wake of a troubled year, Advanced Micro Devices has decided who will next pick up the mantle of Senior Vice President and General Manager.

Advanced Micro Devices is in the middle of a serious restructuring process, which means that executives are changed and shuffled.

This once, AMD is not announcing the departure of anyone, but the joining of a new staff member.

It isn't just any staff member either, but the one that will oversee the team responsible for AMD's end-to-end business.

Dr. Lisa Su, 42, former senior vice president and general manager, Networking and Multimedia at Freescale Semiconductor Inc., has come on board.

As Senior VP and General manager, she will have to make sure AMD always strives for quality and to handle alliances and partnerships with software developers as well.

Her positions will decide the fate of AMD's Client, Commercial, Graphics, Professional Graphics, and Game Console products.

Her bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will be put to full use during her tenure.

“We are fortunate to have Dr. Su join our leadership team,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Rory Read.

“As one of the most respected and technically astute executives in the global semiconductor industry, she brings an impressive track record of business execution driving leading-edge microprocessor technologies, developing deep customer relationships, and transforming organizations while growing market share.”

Dr. Su will begin work on January 3, 2012, and will be based in Austin, Texas.

For those who want background, she worked with Freescale from 2007 as chief technology officer and, later, senior VP and general manager of Networking and Multimedia.

Before that, she was a member of Texas Instruments technical staff and, later, spent thirteen years working in more than one engineering and business leadership position at IBM, including vice president of the Semiconductor Research and Development Center.
