This can't be the sort of news that AMD fans wanted to hear

With October 23, the time of arrival for AMD's Vishera CPUs, even closer, there has been no shortage of leaks and reports about the Piledriver-based FX processors.

As such, we had some good news to share. Sadly, OBR-Hardware says that, according to extensive benchmark tests, the AMD FX-8350 flagship is only 9% faster (on average) than the FX-8150.

For those who want more specifics, single-threaded prowess was 4.2% better, while multi-threaded performance was 11.2% higher, not much different from previous tests.

The silver lining in all this is that Vishera uses 15% less energy than its predecessor.

Needless to say, Intel's Ivy Bridge CPUs easily won the day, and it looks like previous-generation Sandy Bridge did better too, overall.

Granted, AMD never said the Bulldozer was supposed to outperform the high-end Core-Series chips, but it is still odd to see 8-core units being trounced by quad-core ones.

Fortunately, AMD still has an edge in pricing, though we've encountered complaints about those being too high as well, albeit only compared to AMD's other chips.
