AMD announced at the 2013 IBC (International Broadcasting Convention) that it was collaborating with Fusion-io, Supermicro, Dell, Blackmagic, Autodesk and Adobe.

Even though it doesn't specialize in video creation and editing, Advanced Micro Devices has a significant stake in that field simply because it is one of just two corporations that make video cards capable of meeting customer needs.

The company has decided that simple role isn't enough, however. So it figured it may as well start to directly involve itself in video creation, especially now that the 4K resolution is gaining Steam (3840 x 2560 pixels).

It showcased various 4K workflows using AMD FirePro professional graphics, like the first implementation of edge blending, image warping, and color correction with Scalable Display solution based on AMD FirePro DOPP (Display Output Post-Processing).

4K color calibration, 2D / 3D video effects and post production using OpenCL in Adobe Pro CC were achieved as well.

An integrated stereo camera within Autodesk 3ds Max, with support for Active Stereo, was demonstrated as well, along with new Dell mobile workstations (with AMD FirePro graphics of course) and OpenCL-accelerated Bullet Physics extension for Autodesk Maya 2014.

Furthermore, real-time 4K color correction (with Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 10) and multiple GPU support (Supermicro) were publicly demoed for the first time ever.

Basically, AMD is actively involved in the video editing and creation industry now.

“The media and entertainment industry continues to embrace AMD FirePro professional graphics based on increased OpenCL acceptance and implementation. This year’s presence at IBC is a testament to how OpenCL applications with AMD FirePro professional graphics can support and enhance video production in 4K,” said David Cummings, senior director and general manager, professional graphics at AMD.

“Our close collaborations with leaders including Adobe, Autodesk, Blackmagic Design, Dell, Fusion-io, and Supermicro offer video production professionals an amazing blend of hardware and software to make visually compelling content creation a reality.”
