Marriage between AMD and Dell irritates everybody

It's not a new thing the fact that AMD CPUs are being used in Dell systems, nor is it a good thing since large quantities of CPUs are starting to disappear from the market, while some don't even reach store shelves, because of the contract AMD has with Dell. At first, when Dell broke up the alliance with INTEL, it was believed that they will use CPUs from AMD only for their server needs. In time, that changed dramatically, nowadays Dell plans to launch portable solutions powered by AMD chips. And that's not such a bad thing after all, since competition has never hurt anyone. But that's where the good things end.

The frustration of system integrators has reached a point where AMD mails come flooded with complains about the CPU shortage. There is a general opinion according to which AMD who has always been the perfect company for small businesses is starting to sound much like the giant INTEL. And if that was not enough of bad news, latest month no 35W and 65W X2 CPU series reached small system builders, all the CPUs having been sold to Dell.

AMD says there is nothing unusual with this and continues to insist that they are suffering from supply issues, but that has nothing to do with Dell. There's no choice other than to wait and see since no one but AMD can control CPU flow. The latest news however confirms that large distributors are almost out of AM2 parts and there are no signs that the situation will improve.
