The company will announce the Fiji video board on Facebook

Between the unconfirmed reports about upcoming AMD video cards and the overblown NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 crisis, the graphics card market is kind of a PR mess right now. However, at least one good thing has come out of it.

Previously, we did not know for certain whether Advanced Micro Devices was going to launch a Radeon R9 390X or an R9 380X.

In fact, the Sunnyvale, California-based company refrained from confirming there would even be a Fiji board this quarter, or the next.

Now, though, in the tense aftermath of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 public relations explosion, AMD has actually come out and confirmed the Fiji's existence on Facebook. Thanks go to Gav for the tip.

One user, like many others it would appear, has decided to return the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 after the strange memory implementation and fake specs came to light.

Their ensuing question to AMD was about whether or not the card would be released before the debut of the game GTA V on PC (March 24, 2015).

AMD did not confirm or deny, but the company did finally say outright that a Fiji video board was, indeed, approaching.

In fact, Advanced Micro Devices implied that the first anyone will know anything official about the board would be through Facebook instead of its regular PR channel or some keynote at a trade show.

“We don't have an official date to share just yet but the second we know, we will definitely announce it on Facebook,” the company posted.

March 24 is still pretty far away, but we can't help but think about how the Game Developer Conference (GDC for short) is set for March 2-6. Perhaps AMD will say something on the matter then? Maybe just before the trade show starts.

The irony of the situation

The overblown mess caused by the unusual VRAM implementation on NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 is what caused this. However, instead of gravitating towards the now cheaper AMD Radeon R9 290X, the user said they were going to buy the NVIDIA GTX 980 if the Fiji wasn't really coming.

It is a shame that AMD did not have an exact launch date to expose. Especially since we are more than certain that they have narrowed down the ETA to a week by now.
