It is always good to remember where you left from, and if you somehow made it big, give back to the people that need it the most. Such is the case with AMDas they have launched an initiative called 50x15 through which they help bridge the gap between the world's population and the number of people that have Internet access from their ranks. According to a study, the global population will reach 7.2 billion people by 2015, and Chairman and CEO Hector Ruiz said that their initiative wants to bring Internet access to 50% of the population, by the year 2015, therefore the term 50x15.

In their quest to achieve this goal many have joined and given their support, big names such as Microsoft, Cisco, Tarsus, First for Business, CompuTainer @tlantic and Learnthings. All of them have helped in AMD's initiative which included building Learning Labs, which are a means through which students can be taught how to use computers and experience several operating systems ranging from Linux to Windows XP and Windows Starter Edition. The latest partner that came to help AMD succeed with their goal is the Nedbank Group. Together with AMD, they want to deploy "innovative technology solutions" to five schools in South Africa through their Learning Labs.

Tom Boardman, chief executive officer, Nedbank South Africa stated that: "We are confident that this learning lab and the others to follow it will greatly enhance the local educational system's ability to provide students with the skills and information they need to achieve success in an increasingly competitive, digital world. We see this partnership as another innovative way to meet the needs of South African communities and level the playing field via technology so that those in the developing world can compete effectively with their global counterparts."
