MSI has launched two new graphics cards based on AMD's single GPU flagship graphics processor, the Radeon HD4870. The new cards have been designed to provide graphics enthusiasts with a high-performance alternative to the reference models, featuring a large 9cm fan that will provide the card with a high level of performance. MSI's new graphics cards differ in terms of the amount of graphics memory provided, with one model featuring 512MB, while the other offering double that, at 1GB.

Being one of AMD's highest-performance graphics cards, the Radeon HD4870 requires an effective cooling solution that can keep the temperatures of the GPU well within limits. Thanks to the integration of the 9cm fan, the card takes advantage of a whopping 56CFM air flow, with the fan spinning at about 2800RPM. According to MSI, the 9cm fan solution offers a 60% increase in efficiency, also managing to keep the noise level down to a minimum, thanks to a slower speed when compared to traditional cooling solutions.

Aside from the custom cooling solution, MSI has decided to keep the frequency levels of the card, not going for one of those factory-overclocked models. However, technology enthusiasts will likely take advantage of the 9cm fan solution to increase the clocks on these two Radeon HD4870 graphics cards, thus pushing the limits of the GPU and consequently boosting their performance level.

Additional features include a native HDMI port for Blu-ray support and a breathtaking visual experience. A DVI and a D-Sub port are also available and as with all Radeon HD 4000-series graphics cards, these two new models from MSI provide support for the latest DirectX 10 games.

The company is yet to provide details regarding the pricing and availability of the new R4870-MD1G and R4870-MD512 video cards.
