Last Thursday, Advanced Micro debuted its new “The Future is Fusion” campaign, whose main purpose is to inform users about the different technologies and products coming from the Sunnyvale, California-based company. Moreover, the Fusion campaign is also meant to provide details of how AMD's products can be combined to deliver an optimum performance for the latest computer systems. In addition to the campaign announcement, AMD also introduced a new Fusion for Gaming utility, which was designed as a tool to enable AMD-powered PC users to boost the speed of their computer.

As mentioned last week, the company's new Fusion utility will certainly prove an ideal tool for gaming enthusiasts. This because it can provide a number of features that will ultimately improve the gaming experience made possible by all those computers systems running on AMD's technologies.

“We're looking at this from the perspective of someone who uses this as their main PC, with a lot of apps already loaded: Web conferencing, all those little utilities that connect to the Internet and look for updates. RSS feeds,” the AMD representative said. “These are the background tasks that are going to shut down.”

However, it appears that the Fusion utility could also prove quite risky, according to a disclaimer that warns that “this utility may disable security/antivirus software, or adversely affect the stability or security of your system.”

The AMD spokesman said that the disclaimer was required by the company's legal department, and explained that there were only some cases in which a firewall or an antivirus application could be turned off, without the user receiving a notification. “It does go and identify apps that aren't being utilized,” the spokesman said of the utility. “If there is some random A/V, and that's the one thing that's keeping the system safe, it could disable it mistakenly. But we haven't seen any instances of that.”

The utility doesn't affect the notifications from the applications that ask for a confirmation of their shutdown, the same spokesman assured.
