You know what they say, if you have something good, make the most of it. AMC has a hit on its hands with the zombie series “Walking Dead” and it’s planning to capitalize on it even more by expanding the universe.

The network has just confirmed that a “Walking Dead” spinoff is in the works and, even more importantly, not far down the road, TV Line reports.

The spinoff will see series creator Robert Kirkman as executive producer, together with Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert. An estimated air date is set for 2015.

“We look forward to working with Robert, Gale and Dave again as we develop an entirely new story and cast of characters. It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse,” AMC President Charlie Collier says.

“The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing,” Kirkman adds.

The fourth season of “The Walking Dead” is set to premiere on October 13 so, if you think about it, this was the perfect time to announce a new, related project. Fans must be thrilled.
