14 DAY TRIAL // Taylor Swift was inarguably the biggest winner at the American Music Awards 2014, held live in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater, because she was awarded with the Dick Clark Award for Excellence, a distinction that only a select few can brag of receiving.
To boot, she had diva Diana Ross hand it over to her, and she got so overwhelmed that she couldn’t stop thanking her for showing up to present her with the award. You can see the cute moment in the video below.
Taylor thanked Clark’s family for honoring her like this and she thanked the AMAs as well, but she saved the warmest thanks for her loyal fans, the same ones who went out and invested in her music and her art, making her last 3 albums huge hits.
This year, Taylor released her first full-pop album, called “1989” and inspired by the songs of the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. It exceeded even the most optimistic expectations in its first week, so when Taylor says she wouldn’t have been where she is today without her fans, she’s not lying: she has one of the largest and most active fanbases in showbiz.
That’s not to say that “1989” isn’t quality stuff: the album has been getting pretty solid reviews since release, even though most critics weren’t exactly open to the idea of Taylor turning her back on country music and going fully pop, because they viewed that as selling out.
Below is Taylor’s acceptance speech. She wore a gorgeous Michael Kors emerald dress, with an open back and a cutout on her tummy, with Jimmy Choo shoes and a retro-inspired hairstyle.
As promised in the headline, Taylor wasn’t just one of the most fashionable women at the AMAs, she was also the most GIF-able.
