Come November 20, fans and industry people will be all eyes on the biggest event of the season, the American Music Awards 2011, which takes place in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater, and will air live on ABC.

Rappers Nicki Minaj and Pitbull have just announced the nominations in a live ceremony at the JW Marriott Los Angeles – and, to their delight, they also nabbed a couple each.

The favorite of the AMAs this year is British songstress Adele, who leads the pack with 4 nods, including for Artist of the Year and Favorite Female Pop / Rock Artist, both of which will be determined by public vote.

In both categories, she goes up against Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, so there’s no denying the competition will be fierce.

Katy, Gaga and Lil Wayne, Taylor Swift, The Band Petty and Rihanna follow next with most nominations, three each.

As noted above, announcers Pitbull and Nicki Minaj have landed 2 nominations each, as also did Beyonce, Chris Brown, Bruno Mars, LMFAO and Kanye West.

In the Artist of the Year category, arguably the biggest prize of the night, the nominees are Gaga, Adele, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift and Lil Wayne.

Voting for the winners in all 18 categories is already possible on the official webpage of the AMAs here. More information on the awards show is available here.

Fans looking to take part in the AMAs by casting a vote for their favorite artist must bear in mind that voting is possible until Friday, November 11 at 11:59PM PT because, two days later, the winners will be announced during the live broadcast.

Performers announced so far include Katy Perry and Pitbull, but more will be added to the lineup in the days to come.
