The ugly divorce that the country singer Sara Evans is going through was said to affect the show in which she was a contestant and one of the audience's favorites in a negative way. The fact that she left the show unexpectedly was supposed to lead to a decision from ABC of cutting an episode, considering they were left short of a pair.
But 'Dancing With the Stars' pulled through, and more. The contest, with a little boost from Evans who appeared in the next edition after leaving to explain what made her take the decision of throwing in the towel, made it to the number one position in the Tuesday ratings.
Besides the divorce scandal, another factor for this sudden rise could be found in Mario Lopez's presence on the dancing floor. Suffice it to say that the 'Saved by the Bell' actor managed to create a genuine hysteria among the ladies, who all tried to kiss his cute dimples, and quickly established himself as the favorite.
With the show, that matches stars from various fields with professional dancers, and with the dramas 'Heroes' and 'Grey's Anatomy', ABC slowly rose to top, for the first time in many years. The network came in first both in the number of viewers that tuned in and in what respects the 18-49 demographic group. The latter is exactly the group targeted by all major advertisers.
ABC was closely followed by rival network CBS, with runner-ups NBC, Fox and CW.
