Gentoo Linux 2006.0, primul din seria 2006, este disponibil de azi, de la ora 0:00 UTC. De mentionat, versiunea contine trei medii desktop (KDE 3.4.3, Gnome 2.12.2, XFCE 4.2.2), GCC 3.44 si kernel-ul 2.6.15. Distributia contine noul Installer Gentoo Linux, suport oficial pentru EM64T, un mediu Gnome complet, si setul de utilitare NPTL pentru diverse arhitecturi. Arhitecturile suportate oficial sunt alpha, amd64, hppa, sparc, x86, ppc si ppc64, Gentoo fiind prima distributie Linux ce ofera pachete optimizate pentru arhitectura POWER. Informatii aditionale vor fi disponibile aici. Cei ce au trecut anul acesta pe la FOSDEM, cel mai important loc de intalnire pentru developerii open-source, au putut obtine 2006.0 pe CD-uri pentru x86, PPC si AMD64. Cum era de asteptat, cererea a fost mare. "Primele CD-uri cu 2006.0 se vindeau mai repede decat puteau fi scrise de cele trei inscriptoare mergand fara oprire, iar tricourile erau vandute inainte de ora 17, in prima zi."
