Oil and gas giant BP shared new information concerning this week's oil spill

Earlier this week, on Monday, a refinery operated by BP in Withing, Indiana had a bit of a malfunction and ended up spilling some oil into Lake Michigan.

At first, the oil and gas giant said that the amount of fuel that worked its way into Lake Michigan as a result of this incident amounted to somewhere between 9 to 18 barrels.

However, the Los Angeles Times informs that, is a statement released a couple of days ago, BP went public with the news that, according to recent estimates, Lake Michigan actually became home to about 15 – 39 barrels of oil.

To put things into perspective, it must be said that one barrel is the equivalent of 42 gallons. Otherwise out, the BP refinery in Withing, Indiana, really played a number on Lake Michigan.

Presently, the oil and gas giant is working closely with the United States Coast Guard, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to clean up Lake Michigan and keep the ecological impact of the oil spill under control.

The company promises that it will keep both the public and authorities up to date on how cleanup operations are going, and will also provide more information concerning this incident as soon as possible.
