A new survey of those who have bought the Nintendo 3DS in the United States has shown that close to a third of them are now regretting the decision to buy the device after the company announced a price drop of nearly 40 percent from the original price.

The survey was conducted by a Japanese gaming site called 4Gamers and more than 6,500 people answered the question.

30 percent of those who responded reported feeling “anger or regret” about purchasing the Nintendo 3DS.

They also reported that the free games that Nintendo is now offering to those that it has deemed to be Ambassadors were not enough to eliminate these feelings.

49.4 percent of the 3DS owners surveyed said that the current line-up of video games for the platform offered by Nintendo was not adequate and that even upcoming releases like Super Mario and a new Zelda will do little to improve their view of the device.

Close to 50% of those who own a Nintendo 3DS also reported that the big holiday releases like Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land are not in their shopping plans.

More worryingly for Nintendo just 5.4 percent of those who have not yet bought a 3DS are planning to pick one up after the price drop while close to two thirds of those surveyed are saying that, when the PlayStation Vita launches, they are considering buying one.

Nintendo has admitted that it has made mistakes with the launch of the 3DS and the president of the company issued an apology letter to those who bought the device before the price drop, saying that they were crucial for the success of the new device.

The company is also claiming that the new, lower price is designed to attract buyers to its newest handheld and to make it a success in the coming years.
