Coincidentally, both Canon and Pentax have released today firmware updates that fix a major problem for all those using large capacity SD cards.

For Canon, these updates target the company's professional cameras EOS-1D Mark II, EOS-1D Mark II N and EOS-1Ds Mark II. Aside from the SD problem, all three firmware solutions also fix a problem occurring with high-capacity CF cards exceeding 8GB.

Here's what Canon states:

"a) SDHC cards with capacities exceeding 2GB (e.g., 4GB, 8GB) are now supported. b) The phenomenon wherein the camera cannot correctly detect the capacity of CF cards with capacities exceeding 8GB (e.g., 12GB, 16GB) correctly when they are initialized has been corrected."

Pentax has firmware updates for 6 digital single lens reflex cameras, namely K110D, K100D, istDL2, istDL, istDS2 and istDS.

Pentax's updates now allow their cameras to recognize SDHC cards and for some models, the focal length which is input on the [Shake Reduction] menu can be displayed with Pentax Photo Browser3.
