A group of Nebraska high school students will surely never forget their prom day after they plunged into a pond, while trying to pose for a group photo on a shaky bridge.

Twenty-two students from Pierce High School came to Alisha White's house in a rural area of Nebraska for a photo session before the ball. They chose to take some pictures there because of the beautiful and picturesque landscapes.

But their big day turned into a soggy experience when they decided to take a group photo on an old wooden bridge that crossed Willow Creek on Alisha's family's property.

The large group of prom-goers caused the bridge to collapse under their combined weight, and, unfortunately for them, they all ended up in the 4-foot (1.21-meter) deep stream of water below, ruining their prom dresses and rented tuxedos.

Alisha's father Andy said that her daughter and her classmates had taken pictures on his property before, but this time, they opted for the less sturdy of the two bridges on his land.

“They decided to come and get a picture on a couple of the bridges here and they didn't opt for the more sturdy one. And they got about 21 or 22 of them on this back one and it turned out to be a little bit too much weight,” he said, according to Yahoo News.

Given that all the cameras were already in place, they captured the entire incident – the bridge collapse and the aftermath. Some of the students suffered minor scrapes and bruises, but there were no serious injuries.

What should have been a memorable evening turned into a mushy experience for the high school seniors after the platform collapsed, but they remained in high spirits despite their ruined outfits.

Alisha White's first thought after the incident was that all her colleagues would hate her because she planned the whole thing, but instead they were very understanding and nice.

“The first thing I thought about when I went in the water was, ‘Oh my gosh everyone’s going to be so mad at me.’ But then everyone was just really nice about it and they were like, ‘It’s not your fault. You didn't know that was going to happen. There was nothing you can do,’" she said.

Photos of the incident have been posted on Twitter by one of the teens, Lane Rohrich, and became a huge hit on social media with more than 50,000 retweets in a few days.
