Remember the Spice Girls? Kidding - of course you do, and they're more and more the talk of the day, what with their comeback tour so close to its kick-off and the fact that they seem to have learned a thing or two about keeping themselves in the news. So I suppose it's good to reunite more than 10 years after reaching international fame (and earning a fair amount of cash to go with it, too), which sort of guarantees the fact that yes, they will have a maximum of audience appeal if they play their moves right. At the moment, the Spice Girls have been taking some pretty good decisions regarding the management of their new releases. And one of these decisions includes keeping Victoria away from the microphone.
The fact is, it doesn't surprise me. It's no secret for anyone that the very blonde, plastic-boobed Mrs. Beckham does not have the world's best voice, not even when compared to her band mates' vocal performances. And so, the Daily Star reports that in the newest Spice Girls' song called "Headlines (Friendship Never Ends) Posh's part lasts only 15 seconds and she has to share one of her lines with Scary Spice. The song was written by Emma and Geri, and is said to heavily feature the rest of the girls.
Below you can listen to a 30 seconds preview of the song, which will be officially launched on November 15th, when the reunited Girls will give their first-ever performance during the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which will take place at Hollywood's Kodak Theater. It sounds...well, you can listen to it yourselves and tell me if I'm mean to call it "Old Spice Girls material". I mean, don't get me wrong - I think the Spice Girls are and have to be treated as a world phenomenon, but the music world has changed during their prolonged absence, and I'm afraid they will need a little more on top of their old charms to make the crowds sizzle.
And yes, I think that giving Victoria 15 seconds of solo time is a calculated decision, despite one of the Girl's representatives declaring that "the verses have all been shared out equally among the five members and they all sing together on the chorus". Who knows, maybe we're jumping at the wrong conclusions here instead of assuming that because of Victoria's alleged chest infection, her friends are just protecting her voice and we will be hearing more from Posh during their actual tour, which kicks off in Canada in December. OK, now who's being mean?
