A SPH-B5800 for Every Apple Lover

Slider form-factor + wheel navigation = Sliding iPod.

From time to time, we lay our eyes on a device that borrows some piece of design from an electronic apparatus developed by another company and, in extreme cases, it just copies every design feature ending as another clone everyone will look cross-eyed at. But there are also times when one just can't complain about it because, in the end, the sum of all
the features wouldn't be complete without the ones borrowed. Such a case is the Samsung SPH-B5800's one.

Even if the guys from Samsung have clearly got a lot of inspiration from Apple's iPod, I was not thinking at all about a copying intention coming from their part when I first saw this device. Why? Because they have always proven their ability to create good looking handsets without the need to copy the ones other companies have previously launched. Another reason is the fact that they have managed to integrate the famous iPod navigation wheel in a sliding form-factor cell phone without getting too obvious about it or producing some kind of a kitsch impression. The darn thing looks very good and, most probably, without the wheelie, it would have been another dull multimedia slider phone launched by one of the world's leading mobile phone manufacturers.

Although the main thing that will probably attract the customers will be the design, there are also other things that will make you want it. The disclosed piece of spec sheet mentions a 2 megapixel digital camera, an integrated DMB TV tuner so you will be able to watch your favorite TV shows even when being in the most remote place (of course while in the coverage area), a microSD memory expansion card slot that provides you the choice of expanding the built-in storage space, the iPodish looking jog-wheel and wireless Bluetooth connectivity.

The good looking SPH-B5800 iPod look-a-like will be available only for the KTF Korean carrier's customers and unfortunately, that is all we know about it but don't despair because, most likely, the full spec sheet we'll also be available after the first KTF customer will get his hands on the handset.
