Wall Street analyst Gene Munster, with Piper Jaffray, has raised his estimates for iPhone sales forecasting that Apple will have sold roughly 30 million handsets in fiscal Q1 2012 (ended December).

Munster raised his iPhone numbers from 26 million units previously estimated for fiscal Q1 2012, and he also reiterated his iPad forecast, which would likely be around 13.5 million units sold, according to his latest research note.

He tells investors that Cupertino is likely to beat the Street consensus with $40.2 billion in revenue and $10.50 per share.

Finally, Munster tells investors that if Apple has indeed sold 30 million iPhones this past quarter, versus 17 million in the prior quarter, he believes that a redesigned “iPhone 5” could be “a monster upgrade.”
