Dirk Semmann, an evolutionary biologist presently working with the University of Göttingen in Germany, believes that a rabbit's tail has evolved to be brighter than the rest of the animal's body with the sole purpose of confusing predators.

What?! You mean bunny Tails aren't so cute and puffy just to entertain us and make us like these animals even more? Bummer. Daily Mail reports that, whenever a rabbit is chased by a predator, its tail keeps vanishing and reappearing from the grass.

The attacker cannot help but notice it, looks away from the rabbit's body and is then forced to re-focus.

This slows it down, and buys the rabbit some more time to escape, the same source explains.

Dirk Semmann has recently detailed his findings at a scientific conference in Newcastle.
