Looks like the interest in convenient electronics devices is mounting, with a quarter of US consumers having the intention to buy such a thing before the second quarter of the year is out.

ABI Research decided to conduct a survey to see how high smartphones, tablets, HDTVs and other items rank on the priority list of people.

The results show plainly that, whether because of the supposedly recovering economy or not, people are showing genuine interest.

25% of those surveyed said that they want a new smartphone or HDTV, while 17% said they would first get a Blu-ray player.

Moving on, 18% of those asked said they would like a new game console, while people seeking media tablets were, oddly enough, fewer (16%).

“There will always be value in viewing content on the large screen, so we do not see these mobile applications as subtractive or competitive to the connected CE space,” says senior analyst Michael Inouye.

“Respondents, for instance, continue to favor connected CE devices for viewing Internet video content on the main screen over alternatives like smartphones or tablets. While connecting a mobile device to the TV screen or wirelessly mirroring the screen may be foreign to many consumers, this practice will occur more frequently as the market and consumer behavior evolves, but given the portable nature of these devices and social nature of TV viewing fixed devices will continue to have a strong role to play in the digital living room.”

Mobile devices managed to be at the forefront of customer preference moslty due to how common web connections have become and due to how much more capable phones are, compared to a few years ago.

As for HDTVs, they have reached the point where second screen applications, social TV apps (GeGlue, Miso, zeebox, etc.) and even picture in picture are at people's fingertips. Even DVR programming and multiscreen services are gaining recognition.
