“Less storage, one less camera, and a full .06 ounces lighter,” says iFixit

Apple’s newly introduced iPod touch couldn’t have possibly escaped the teardown-itchy hands at iFixit, so here’s what they found.

“Just in time for summer, Apple snuck a little surprise into their online stores this Thursday, and 'little' is the operative word. Less storage, one less camera, and a full .06 ounces lighter,” says iFixit.

Of course, these things were already well known. iFixit also points out that there’s a small void where the back camera should be, and that some flex cables have been slightly rerouted because of the change.

The logic board also bears an empty spot where the camera cables should have gone, but otherwise things look pretty much the same as in the 32GB and 64GB versions of the iTouch.

The mic has been moved to the top of the device because it is no longer needed where the camera assembly should have been and, “With the exception of the flash memory, it appears that the ICs on the 16 GB model’s logic board are the same as those found on the 32 and 64 GB models,” the repair shop reports.
