It looks like the iPod docks are finally moving, as the first quarter of 2008 will bring the first noticeable evolution as far as the docking stations' world is concerned. It's all about Wadia and their freshly-announced iTransport dock, a piece of audio technology that really looks sleek and most promising.

[admark=1]From the press release drawings, the iTransport looks rather like a media rack component, with a very elegant body with a neat and careful design and company logo indentation on the front panel; everything resides on four massive spiked feet so that no vibrations would affect its performance.

First of all, the Wadia iTransport will be compatible with all current iPod models, including the iPhone and iPod Touch; this is a truly neat feature, meaning that this docking station addresses to all those who own or intend to buy a player in the future.

But the biggest leap in iPod docks' history is the principle of operation; the Wadia iTransport has its own DAC stage and will thus bypass the iPods' D/A conversion chip, performing a bit-perfect audio and video data transfer and taking care of the decoding process with proprietary resources. The aim of such an endeavor is to be able to provide higher-class output signal, with a "clean and unadulterated" character and "providing CD-quality resolution from full-resolution file formats such as .WAV and .m4a (Apple Lossless)".

Subsequently to this new data "transport" method, the Wadia iTransport runs with an S/PDIF digital audio output, a high-resolution component digital video output and analog audio and video outputs, leading to a perfect connectivity with your home gear and maximal multimedia enjoyment.

The Wadia iTransport will be available in February 2008 and the announced retail price is $349, expected to get lower during the year.
