Screen flickering experienced by customers running the latest version of Apple’s TV-oriented iOS are to be addressed in a future software update, an Apple representative has reportedly confirmed.

The Apple staffer reportedly said that Cupertino was aware of the issues caused by the iOS 4.2 software update for Apple TVs, and that it is working on a fix that will address the screen flickering problems.

According to AppleInsider, the glitch affects only a small number of users.

A report by MacRumors further sheds light on the matter, with the rumor site noting that said issues have been experienced only on certain television models while attempting to convert the Apple TV's 720p output to a 1080i format.

On both direct HDMI output and HDMI to DVI video adapter output users reportedly experienced flickering and flashing.

Some customers reported finding that the video output settings on their set-top boxes had been permanently set on the "Auto" option with a 480p resolution, according to the rumor site.

Although advertised as iOS 4.2, the build handed out by Apple last week was actually an iOS 4.3 IPSW.

It was released just ahead of the iPad 2 launch with multiple enhancements and bug fixes.

Some of the noteworthy additions include MLB.TV, NBA Game Time, Netflix Dolby Digital 5.1, new slideshow themes, the Improved on-screen keyboard, AirPlay photo slideshow themes, HDMI color mode, and Connectivity and performance fixes.

An iOS software update for iPhone and iPad users is also on the way.

An Apple spokesperson confirmed this week that an alarm clock bug is still plaguing Apple’s mobile operating system, while some are reporting additional problems (like battery drainage).

A security hole is also present in iOS 4.3 for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, which makes it all the more imperative for Apple to launch an incremental update in the near future.
