The 3D image can be enjoyed with red-cyan glasses

Curiosity is taking somewhat of a break. It's not tired or anything, but the alignment of the Earth, Sun and Mars make it impossible to communicate with the rover.

Still, that doesn't mean it's sitting idly still (thought that's mostly what it's doing) or that there isn't new stuff coming out from the Curiosity team.

Case in point, there's a new rather stunning 3D panorama of the rover's surroundings. The high resolution photo spans 360 degrees and was shot on three days in January.

Curiosity's twin navigational cameras, the Navcam, show dozens of images to compose the panorama. The slightly different perspectives of the left and right cameras can be used to create the 3D view.

The image will look three dimensional when viewed through cyan and red glasses, it's an anaglyph 3D image. The full image is here (17.2 MB).
