A Multipurpose Docking Station

- USB hub, card reader and more

By: Alexandru Pancescu, Hardware Editor

For users that are using a barebone computer system or a desktop computer that is packed in a small form factor case, space to add hardware parts is always a problem and sometimes the only solution is to go for the external versions of the needed parts when they are available. Well, there is now another solution, at least for some of the troubling hardware components like memory card reader, USB hub and so
on.

And the solution is the USB Data Dock from LINDY Electronics, computer hardware manufacturing company that is currently focusing itself on computer peripherals and connectivity problems. The USB Data Dock is mountable in a 3.5 inch expansion bay so it will not take up too much space and it will add to your computer a portable USB hub, a memory card reader and even an adapter to connect a 2.5 inch laptop hard disk drive to your host system. As the docking station features three trays that are portable and because the unit can use any two of the trays at the same time, it allows users a greater degree of flexibility.

The Data Dock connects inside the host computer system by an USB port and any unused tray can also be connected in a stand alone mode via the same USB version 2.0 port. The memory card reader tray is a multi format one as it supports CompactFlash, MemoryStick, MS Pro, MS ROM, MS Duo, sD, mini-SD, and MMC. The system is compatible with most computers out there that are equipped with high speed USB version 2.0 ports and use one of the following operating systems Windows 98SE /ME /2000 /XP /Vista and Mac OS 9.0 and above. In stand alone mode, the trays need an additional powering cable that connects to an USB port and the cable is also supplied with the USB Data Dock and its trays.
