Here's a piece of lighting gadgetry that doesn't come in cheap at all, but which will definitely have your every friend gazing at it in awe: the Felt Lamp, from designers Matthew Radune and Susanna Hohmann. Now, there is more than one strange thing about this lamp, from shapes to its very construction; and this makes it a rather special thing, not too easy to integrate with all the settings you might see around.
Despite the fact that we first thought it was a mere project and that it was unlikely that we'd see this in real life, we were quite surprised to learn that the Felt Lamp was actually selling for serious green.
The first striking thing about this most uncanny lamp is its shape, which greatly resembles a human breast. Now, we'll hold our horses here and let you be the judge of how appropriate this design is, in terms of using it in your houses.
Despite the possibility that some feel somewhat offended, the overall design is very interesting and daring, because it involves a rather unused shape and materials that are definitely rare in lighting equipment. The design is fluid and very warm, with the drop-like aesthetics neatly merging with the supporting wall.
This lamp is crafted from molded felt and that is yet another weird thing. The dimensions are more than generous, sporting a 24" height and 13" width, requiring a larger portion of the wall for proper installation. It comes alive as you plug in a compact-size fluorescent light bulb; why fluorescent only? Because you don't want your home catching fire – incandescent bulbs generate too much heat and hot, dry felt is rather prone to combustion; using fluorescent light sources eliminates the chances of burning your home to the ground.
The unusually shaped felt lamp will set you back some $170, and that's not cheap for some yellowish light in your room. For this amount of money you can get yourself a dozen lamps like this one and have even more fun.
