Now that Britney Spears is in rehab, we can all go and say: 'Phew! Rehab: been there, done that'. All that's left for us to do, since nothing about Britney that can be classified as news has happened in such a long time, is to speculate on her highly anticipated comeback album: what will it sound like?, how will the public receive it?, are people going to buy it?, and so on and so forth.
Last time we've heard about the comeback material, rumor had it that it was in danger of being rejected by the label because Britney was reticent to get back to work. There was even talk of nixing Britney altogether on account of drunken antics and lack of professionalism. 'Right now, she is trying to lay down some tracks, but no one is keen to move very quickly because there is the issue of how to market the album. Jive hasn't even picked producers for the album. If she doesn't clean up her act - and soon - it is going to be a problem. The public has grown really tired of her antics and despite her and [manager Larry Rudolph] promising she would change, she hasn't. She has lost her core fan base of teen girls.', a source told PageSix a couple of weeks ago, before the shaving/rehab madness.
Naturally, Jive Records was quick to dismiss the rumor, by issuing a press statement meant to re-assure the fans that Britney was, indeed, working on the album and doing her best to make it work. Various producers have been attached to the project, among which was also Pharrell Williams, who was spotted entering the studio Britney was recording at, a couple of hours after her.
Now, there is a second big name attached to Britney's yet unnamed album, but this time the collaboration comes from a reliable source: the producer himself. Timbaland, the man of the hour right now, responsible for the many hits that literally burn the airways, claims he is more than willing to lend recuperating Britney a helping hand with her music. 'I'm the type of person who tries to save the world. I just want to take her away, go overseas and work [it] out...', he told MTV in a recent interview. Ha, funny how he should compare Britney's album to an attempt at saving the world...
The other good news is that Britney's former boyfriend, Mr. SexyBack Justin Timberlake, might also be on board in this bold and daring adventure. That is, if we are to believe Timbaland and, right now, I see no reason to doubt his words. 'I asked Justin, "How would you feel about me working with Britney?... Would you do it with me?" "She's just gotta be serious." [Justin answered]', Timbaland explains.
If this is, indeed, true, it's more than safe to say that Britney stands 99.9 percent chances of making a huge, splashing comeback on the music stage. After all, if Timbaland can't pull this through, I honestly don't know who can... Keep your eyes on this space for more.
