Once again, gamers have been keeping busy this past week, as plenty of big news appeared, including major announcements, releases and big statements from industry leaders.

First up, however, you can enjoy two new reviews that we published this week, one for the older Aliens vs Predator and one for Dungeon Siege III. You can also check out a quick look at F.E.A.R. 3, as well a Weekend Reading piece on the indie game Fate of the World.

Now, let's start this edition of A Gamer's Week.

On Monday we saw two big news appear concerning Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, two of the biggest shooters that will be out later this year. DICE confirmed that the Battlefield 3 runs at 30fps and 720p on consoles, while Electronic Arts boss John Riccitiello continued his war against the Call of Duty series by picking on the recently announced Elite online service.

On Tuesday, Sony fans heard that a new PlayStation 3 model will be released onto the market, being lighter, more energy efficient and, according to some reports, even more secure. EEDAR analysts have also confirmed that Mass Effect 3 was the most promising video game showcased at E3 2011 two weeks ago.

Wednesday saw the release of the Duke Nukem Forever demo on Steam and Xbox Live, for all users to download, while a PlayStation 3 edition will appear later this month. This was also the day when the 2011 Game Critics Awards released its nominees list to the most impressive games of the E3 2011 conference, with Uncharted 3 and BioShock Infinite gaining the most nominations.

On Thursday PlayStation 3 owners saw the release of yet another firmware update, which took its firmware to version 3.66 and brought little in terms of new features or benefits. FIFA 12 receive a concrete release date, of September 27 in North America and September 30 in Europe.

On Friday, two big news arrived for PC gamers, with Valve revealing that its Team Fortress 2 online first person shooter is now completely free to play. What's more, Rockstar also confirmed that L.A. Noire, its recent detective simulator, will be out for the PC platform this fall.
