This week has been dominated by playing Mass Effect 2, the most recent hybrid between role playing and third person shooting from BioWare. We've got a review of the game up and a Weekend Reading piece linked with its Cerberus Network. And if you are interested in knowing what we've been doing over the weekend, you can also read a fresh EndWeekGame.

On Monday, an MTV Games executive suggested that the company was working on Green Day Rock Band, while also preparing something along the lines of a more traditional Rock Band 3. The PlayStation 3 might be one step closer to running homebrew applications after a hacker announced that he had broken a big part of the defenses of the Sony made console.

On Tuesday, Square Enix detailed the Collector's Edition for the Western release of Final Fantasy XIII, coming in March on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, while Electronic Arts and DICE began talking about the new multiplayer modes for Battlefield Bad Company 2.

Wednesday was the day before the official first showing of the Apple iPad, and Peter Moore, the leader of EA Sports, said he was interested in making videogames for it without even having seen the device. Meanwhile, World of Warcraft, the 11 million subscriber MMO, is apparently lacking any real challengers in 2010. Just wait until BioWare releases The Old Republic.

On Thursday, Ubisoft offered more details on its new anti-piracy measures based around constant Internet authentication of the game run and upon cloud-based save games. At the same time, Capcom made the rather surprising announcement that Gears of War 2 stars Dom and Marcus would be featured in Lost Planet 2.

On Friday, we heard about a new expansion hitting Borderlands, the third, set to raise the level cap, while Episodes from Liberty City for Grand Theft Auto IV was set to also arrive on the PlayStation 3 and the PC.
