Out of Rapture

This week, we have a review of BioShock 2 up and running, after offering a series of articles on the videogame that takes gamers back to Rapture. We also have the now usual Weekend Reading article, which deals with how demos should bite the dust as open betas ascend to the throne, and an EndWeekGame piece that deals with how I plan to fill up my hours of videogaming this weekend. And, of course, we have the finest selection of news from the last seven days.

On Monday, it was all about betas for highly anticipated titles. Just as the Halo: Reach beta is detailed by the people working at Bungie, news filtered out that keys linked to the StarCraft II beta are reselling on eBay for no less than 300 dollars, at times even significantly more than that.

On Tuesday, Sony was uncovered to be working on a complex new controller that might work not only with the PlayStation 3 but also with the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii and about a hundred other consoles. This just as more and more evidence appears linking the next Treyarch-made Call of Duty to the battlefield of Vietnam.

On Wednesday, all those worried about their PlayStation 3 hard drive space found out that the upcoming God of War III would not have a mandatory install and only use 5 MB for saved games. This just as more details surfaced about Civilization V, which is set to emphasize more tactical battles and place less importance on religion.

On Thursday, we talked about how Electronic Arts believes that next generation consoles are some time off and that players should be content with the innovation offered by Sony's Arc and Microsoft's Project Natal. Meanwhile, Nintendo announced launch dates for both Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M during the summer.

Friday was all about Ubisoft's new and restrictive DRM, which apparently won't be patched out at any moment, and about the rumble feedback feature that could come to the Nintendo DS2.
