This week has been a busy one as we finally got access to both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 for the first time, and we deliver reviews for: FIFA 14 on the Xbox One, a clear improvement thanks to the Ignite engine, Dead Rising 3, a zombie-drenched, fun experience, Ryse: Son of Rome, a beautiful but shallow combat game, Need for Speed: Rivals, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Gran Turismo 6.

The traditional Weekend Reading pieces deal with: one about the replayability inherent in the structure of Football Manager 2014 and one concerning next-gen consoles and their not-so-impressive games..

We also have a Gamer Diary that offers some more thoughts on the gameplay and style of Ryse: Son of Rome.

The EndWeekGame piece deals with how we plan to spend our free time, and we also have a selection of the news that was delivered during the previous week.

On Monday, the Fallout 4 teaser site revealed more hints about the future of the series and mentioned Vault 199, while Caesar in Gaul is the first campaign expansion coming to Total War: Rome II, set to arrive on December 12.

Tuesday, Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 had managed to sell 2.1 million units since launch, and Microsoft is advising gamers not to use the developer mode because it can brick Xbox One consoles.

Wednesday, Microsoft revealed a number of stats about the Xbox One and its games, and DICE explained that it was evaluating the issues of the China Rising DLC for Battlefield 4.

Thursday, the Xbox One was affected by problems linked to Battlefield 4, and Activision explained that only fans were able to judge the quality of Call of Duty: Ghosts.

On Friday, the teaser site for Fallout 4 received more encoded messages, and Sony reset PlayStation Network after irregular activity was discovered that threatened security.

Saturday, the launch date for Destiny was announced as being September 9, 2014 and the Fallout 4 teaser website turned out to be a hoax.
