Hello and welcome to another edition of A Gamer's Week, your roundup of the most important gaming news from the last seven days. It's been a truly hectic week this one, as it was host to the GamesCon in Cologne, Germany, and has also seen the BlizzCon in Anaheim, California. Of course, a lot of announcements and rumors have arrived these days and here are the most important ones, in A Gamer's Week.

Monday was pretty big for World of Warcraft fans, as supposedly new details about the upcoming Cataclysm expansion surfaced on various WoW-dedicated forums. Besides the new races and events, this update will completely revamp Azeroth. It was also the day when a special source told us that a new Medal of Honor game would appear in the summer of 2010, focused on modern events but set in a fictional timeline.

Tuesday was host to two big statements from Microsoft and Bethesda regarding their most precious franchises. The first was in regard to the Halo movie and how Microsoft said that it was currently 'on hold' and nobody was handling it as of yet. Bethesda's Pete Hines then talked about how his studio was working on a new The Elder Scrolls title and that when he and his team had something to show, it would be revealed to the public.

Wednesday was perhaps the biggest day of the week as Sony revealed its new PlayStation 3 Slim console to the whole public at GamesCon. The newer and slimmer device also brought a price cut, which will make it even more attractive to those of you who delayed buying a new console. Also on this day, at GamesCon, Lionhead's Peter Molyneux announced Fable III, which will take the whole series to a new level as you will control the kingdom of Albion in the next installment.

Thursday was when EA saw fit to reveal the opening cut scene of its upcoming NFS Shift title. Adrenaline-filled races, split-second events and a whole new experience will be coming to NFS fans all around the world in September. Konami also revealed on this day the concrete release date of its PES 2010 title, which will be hitting major platforms starting from October 22.

The final day of the week was reserved to Infinity Ward, as the studio's Robert Bowling shed some light on the open beta stage of the multiplayer mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It seems that if the team sees it necessary, then it will be launched. Also on this day, which is the first one for BlizzCon, the company behind the hugely successful World of Warcraft, Blizzard, together with Future, revealed that a special magazine dedicated to the MMORPG would be launched.

This week I also had a chance to spend one hour with id and Raven Software's newest endeavor, Wolfenstein. For all of the latest news, demos and reviews check out the dedicated games section here at Softpedia.
