The concept of podcasting was suggested back in 2000, and its technical components became available a year later, being then used
in the program Radio Userland. In only two years, regular podcasts started to appear on popular websites and this led to the development of software support, so today podcasting is no longer a secret for many people, but for those that still don't have an idea about it, let's answer the big question: "What is a podcast?".

A podcast is a media file that is distributed by subscription (paid or unpaid) over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and, of course, personal computers. Just the same as "radio", the term can mean both the content and the method of broadcast (syndication), while the latter can also be termed "podcasting", and the author or host of such media content is usually called a "podcaster".

Today I found out about an excellent offer from Apple that offers a free seminar on podcasting that is split in three parts on performing to record, producing and promoting a podcast. "The Podcast Recipe: Producing a successful show" requires QuickTime 7 and Safari, Netscape 7.0, Internet Explorer 5.0 or AOL (depending on the platform you are using) to participate.

The people involved in these three parts of the seminar are Joe Cipriano, "one of the most frequently heard voices in America", that will guide you in recording, Paul Garay, Inside Home Recording's host, that takes care of the production part, and Pete Alcorn, Apple iTunes Podcast Directory's business manager, the one to show you how to make your podcast popular and give you details about different types of podcasting technologies.

All you have to do to take part in this seminar is to register for free and enjoy the show that runs for one hour and a quarter.
