Asiatotal, a Hong Kong website, has launched iT, a personal computer that will be distributed freely to small companies and to low income population. The 100 USD laptop that MIT has developed has now a serious rival.

The new PC has a keyboard, a mouse, a 7 inch LCD display with speakers, a smart card reader and all the necessary cables. All you have to do is to plug it in, turn it on and the hotkeys do the rest.

These hotkeys lead users directly to specific web destinations. For this project to come alive, sponsors were needed, and they are directly accessible from iT's personalized keys.

The smart card reader allows users to use banking cards for transactions and other payments directly from iT. The free PC can be connected to a TV, to an audio system, to printers and to USB devices.

Asiatotal claims that iT will be freely distributed not only in Asia, but worldwide. This would bring technology in more people's houses, that couldn't afford it by now. Of course, it won't replace the100 USD laptop, because it needs a permanent power source connection. The 100 USD laptop can use a battery and can also generate electricity by spinning a crank.
