Files can be easily organized by using a file manager integrated as default into your own operating system, or by installing an appropriate software that will help you to perform various actions on your files, such as browsing, editing and more. When you are dealing with HTML pages or PHP code for example, is useful to have a file manager (browser) integrated into your web browser.

Firefly is an add-on that once installed will transform your Firefox web browser in a simple file manager. As a consequence you will be able to browse, preview, edit, copy or rename files directly from your Firefox browser. The Firefly add-on can be used on Windows, Linux or Mac OS (tested with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.13) operating system. It has also support for Internet Explorer browser but IETab add-on must be installed in order to work with IE engine. It can be installed as any other Firefox add-on.

The Firefly add-on functionality can be customized by specifying certain options available in the Options window. You must select Tools - Add Ons - Firefly Options and modify the default options that will determine the desired behavior of the plugin. For example, you can enable or disable the hidden files display option, define an external editor, paths, customize Send To and Open With menu and more. The files can be viewed in different ways because the add-on provides you with the possibility to split the view for a unspecified number of times.

This add-on does not allow you to perform drag-and-drop actions to copy or cut files. But it is very useful when you need to have a rapid access to certain files to edit their code and then preview their output in a web browser. If you are used to the file manager on your operating system, the Firefly add-on can be easily manipulated. The add-on source code and files can be viewed by extracting the content of its corresponding .xpi archive.

There are many possibilities of customization, such as adding new languages, changing the skin and more. If you want to start gaining more time for your web development projects, Firefly add-on can be downloaded from here.
