Epson has come up with a wide variety of products targeting digital photographers in particular, but also quite a few models that can be described as "photo-enhanced office workhorses." And, at least to some extent, that can also be said about the company's Stylus SX600FW model, which offers photo printing features as well as built-in Ethernet/WiFi networking possibilities and a fax module, thus making it just the thing to keep around a self-employed photographer's home office.

The device employs an Epson Micro Piezo printing head and 4 individual ink cartridges, which contain Black, Yellow, Magenta and Cyan colors. The printing head sports 384 nozzles for black and 128 nozzles for each of the other colors, and uses the company's variable ink droplet technology.

And speaking of ink, it's important to mention that the Stylus SX600FW works with Epson DURABrite Ultra ink, which retains the shape and colors even when accidentally getting wet. Moreover, the printer can attain a maximum printing resolution of up to 5760 x 1440 dpi, due to the fact that this product also employs RPM (Resolution Performance Management) technology.

The speed is an extremely important issue when purchasing a new printer, and for this reason we'll mention that the SX600FW can go as high as 38 ppm when printing black or

color texts (A4 format). The photo printing speed isn't too bad, either, since a 10x15 cm photo can be printed in just around 20 seconds. The fax speed is among the best in its class (33,6kbps), while the actual amount of time required in order to transmit a page is also rather small, of just around 3 seconds.

The SX600FW comes packed with pretty much all the connectivity options one might require from such a product, starting with USB 2.0 and ending with the built-in 802.11b/g/n wireless module. Moreover, like most other products of this type, the SX600FW is PictBridge compliant, which means that it can be used for printing photos from digital cameras directly.

Epson's Stylus SX600FW is quite a sound and useful device, which can easily find its way around any home or small office. A major plus is represented by the adjustable control panel, which allows users to choose exactly the position that best suits their need for the buttons.
