A Canadian-based film company has started on a project about John Lennon's death. The movie will explore the mind of Mark David Chapman, Lennon's killer.
Jared Leto is the actor to portray the criminal. He had stared lately in "Requiem for a Dream", as a heroin addict, and in "Lord of War", as a cocaine-snorting arms dealer.
Lindsay Lohan will also join the cast, playing a fictional Lennon fan who befriends Chapman in the weekend of the murder.
Leto and Lohan are, apparently, involved in a romance, even though Lohan's publicist told Reuters that the reason they were spotted together so often was they were "doing research for the movie".
But friends of the two say they might be ready to go public soon.
Jared Leto has previously dated Scarlett Johansson and Cameron Diaz and was also linked to porn actress Corina Taylor , the X-rated star of The Blowjob Adventures of Dr. Fellatio Part 42.
The production of the film is to begin in January 16 in New York.
The title will be "Chapter 27", as a reference to the 26 chapters in J.D. Salinger's novel "The Catcher in the Rye", which was cited as inspiration by Chapman.
He said he identified with the book's hero, who hated phonies, and shot Lennon because he thought of him as a hypocrite.
Lennon's murderer is currently serving a prison sentence of 20 years to life.
Chapman shot the singer outside the Dakota apartment building on December 8, 1980, only hours after getting an autograph from him.
