Adam Lambert is a busy man. One of the biggest stars ever to come out of American Idol (who didn’t even win the top prize), he is now working on a new album, is getting involved in various organizations campaigning for equality and is, just as importantly, happy in love.

Since Adam is usually very private about his personal life and rarely does extensive interviews, fans should be happy to know that he’s breaking his own rule in the latest issue for The Advocate.

Always very honest, Adam draws a line between his career (and being a star) and his personal life. At the same time, he understands the need fans feel to know everything about him – it’s the media’s interest that bothers him the most.

He seems to have found balance between these two.

“I’m more comfortable with myself in the public eye. That’s an adjustment… There’s also a flip that comes from being in a relationship; it changes your perspective and your frame of mind and what you want. I’m lucky enough right now to be in a relationship,” he says.

This is one of the few times that Adam speaks about Sauli Koskinen, whom he met after one of his concerts in Europe and has been dating since last November.

“You know, honestly, when you start talking so much about your relationship, it opens the door too much. I’ve only been in one major long-term relationship prior to this, and I’m really, really happy,” Adam says.

“It’s done a lot for me, and it’s grounded me, and it has inspired me as a writer as a performer. I just think everybody wants that connection, and I’m really happy to have found it,” he adds.

However, when it comes to the way the media focuses on his orientation, Adam is blunt: he hates it when everything in the mainstream media is about him being gay, which is probably why he chose to speak to The Advocate in the first place.

That's funny- Adam does lots of interviews, and I had the impression that he was always totally open and honest in them. Adam himself admits he has a 'big mouth'.

And why does the media care about his homosexuality anyway? It's too well-publicised; move on, people. Is a gay man such a strange thing? He's a talented musician, not a freak show.

You can understand why Adam is so reluctant to speak about his sexual orientation- he always insists that he doesn't want to be labelled and that his music and his love life are separate.
